Excellent, dynamic, innovative: as one of Munich's great symphony orchestras, the Munich Symphony Orchestra has been an integral part of the German musical landscape for over 75 years. They perform around 100 concerts a year with concert series in Munich (Prinzregententheater, Philharmonie, Technikum im Werksviertel), Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Kempten, with guest performances as well as tours in Germany and abroad. The renowned and experimental orchestra with musicians from 17 different nations presents varied programmes on large concert and open-air stages, in clubs, at unusual venues and in its own time-honoured rehearsal hall at the famous Bavaria Music Studios. The repertoire ranges from baroque music to classical and romantic works to film music, from modern classics to 21st century hip-hop and crossover. Since the 2014/2015 season, principal conductor Kevin John Edusei, who will conduct his farewell concert this season, has been shaping the orchestra's musical development and is committed to providing new programmatic approaches. The orchestra is characterised by its unconventional play with tradition as well as its collaboration with up-and-coming young stars from the classical music scene. Renowned musicians such as Juan Diego Flórez, Joyce DiDonato, Lucas & Arthur Jussen, Pepe Romero and Arabella Steinbacher have accompanied the Münchner Symphoniker in their concerts, as have Maximilian Hornung, Pablo Ferrández and Daniel Ottensamer, with whom the orchestra has already recorded a CD (Sony). In addition, actors such as Max Müller, Stefan Hunstein or Herbert Knaup as well as artists of other musical genres such as soul singer Joy Denalane, Quadro Nuevo, the hip-hop band EINSHOCH6 or Dreiviertelblut give the diverse programmes their very own touch. The orchestra has already recorded over 650 film scores, including, for example, Howard Shore's Oscar-nominated composition for the soundtrack of "The Silence of the Lambs".

Andrea Sanguineti is a conductor with charisma, high musicality and a stellar career. Deutschlandradio Kultur has called him a "genius" several times. The maestro is a welcome guest at many European orchestras and opera houses. Until the end of the 2018 season, he was General Music Director of the New Lausitz Philharmonic Orchestra and the Görlitz Theatre, where he conducted numerous premieres and more than 150 concerts in Saxony during his 5-year tenure. Before that, he was engaged at the Opéra National du Rhin in Colmar, the Staatstheater Hannover and the Mainfranken Theater Würzburg. Since autumn 2018, Andrea Sanguineti has been guest conducting concerts, new productions and revivals with the Gewandhaus Orchestra at the Leipzig Opera (La Cenerentola), with the Robert Schumann Philharmonie in Chemnitz, with the Philharmonia Zurich for a Verdi Gala and Lucia di Lammermoor at the Opernhaus, the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, the Essen Philharmonic in concert as well as at the Aalto Theatre (new production Don Carlo), with the Orquestra Sinfónica Nacional De São Carlos, Lisboa and many others, most recently he was engaged as a guest at the Opéra National du Strasbourg. In addition to his many new opera productions, Andrea Sanguineti is equally at home on the concert stage; he has acquired a broad repertoire ranging from the symphonies of Beethoven to Brahms, Messiaen's Turangalîla Symphony, Scriabin's Prométhée. Le Poème du feu or the Concerto for Orchestra "Marco Polo" by Tan Dun. With the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra he recorded an excellently reviewed CD "CLASSIC VIENNA" Mozart, Gluck, Haydn for Sony Classical. He studied piano and composition at the Conservatory in Genoa and conducting at the Music University in Vienna and at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan.
