Imaginary Dances

A saxophone quartet has never had it easy. By some it is just mildly ridiculed as a chamber music phenomenon not to be taken seriously, by others as a 'rather special sounding body', as a negligible art form, elegantly relegated to insignificance. But fortunately there is also the middle. First of all, they listen to what's going on and, if everything fits, they are downright delighted and receive a rich gift.

Let's turn the tables: What if the saxophone were older than Bach, Mozart or Beethoven? What if these gentlemen had composed their works originally for saxophone quartet and they had only been arranged for string quartet much later...? I know, it wasn't like that, but let's assume ..., then one couldn't help but find the saxophone quartet simply good. There, Messrs Beethoven, Mozart and Schönberg are on the exclusive guest list just like Maurer, Resch and Geiss, yodelling for attention at eye level. I like saxophone quartets - and when they play ravishingly well like AUREUM, when the pieces are interesting and the arrangements sound as if they were written for the saxes, then all that glitters is gold.

golden roots, the new programme of the AUREUM Saxophone Quartet, is tradition and modernity. Folk music and art music are not counterparts here, but rather origin and development. The ensemble elicits timbres, tones and sounds from the saxophones that create an extraordinary listening experience. The four musicians are able to present music on stage in a special way. With incomparable wit and charm, situational scenography and the right timing, AUREUM shakes up the usual concert circumstances and creates an overall experience for the audience. In this way, the musicians of AUREUM pass on their passion for music and take the audience on a very personal journey.
